MEDA Charitable Trust is a Private Foundation, initially funded with a contribution by MEDA Limited, registered with the Government of Canada. Its purpose is to publicly recognize and reward those individuals in the community (Windsor and Essex County) who "have performed acts of bravery, heroism, kindness and citizenship in various fields of charitable endeavor. These efforts have been beneficial to the community and through positive role models for others by motivating people to perform acts or activities for the public good".
The idea that started the award was a newspaper story about Denny Pedri who rescued three people from a burning building. "It seems today that we only pay attention to people who commit crimes, instead of people who do good things" explains Mel Lawn, the Chairman of MEDA Limited.
Over the past seven years, the MEDA Charitable Trust has awarded "Exemplary Citizenship Medals" to may individuals. People who go to extraordinary lengths to improve our community are often too humble to accept recognition. MEDA Limited is very proud of its ability to seek out these individuals and ultimately present the award to them for their notable and selfless contribution to our community.
Each award recipient receives an 18-carat gold medallion which depicts St. George Slaying the Dragon and is presented by Mel, Carole and David Lawn.
